From a playability standpoint, the new Tour Edge Exotics EXS hybrids were designed to offer players incredible forgiveness and naturally high launch conditions. That performance combination should make them popular with mid- and high-handicap golfers. That said, these are hybrids that also offer the ball speed, lower spin rates, and tour-inspired shaping that better players are looking for, meaning EXS hybrids are likely to land in the bags of players with wide ranges in ability level.
The Tech Story
From a technology standpoint, what has been done with the EXS hybrids mirrors what Tour Edge has done with the EXS fairway woods. Most noteworthy is the construction of the clubface, which features a high-density HT980 steel that.undergoes a specialized heat treatment that strengthens the material and enables a thinner face. Also utilized are a Cup Face design and variable face thickness pattern, which combined with the thinner clubface produce exceptional ball speeds on center and off-center strikes. Additionally, the center of gravity in the EXS hybrids has been moved closer to the clubface to reduce spin, further promoting distance, and the use of carbon fiber in the toe region of the clubhead allows weight to be pushed to the perimeter of the club to create higher MOI and provide better results on mis-hits. And finally, a weight port in the sole that can house different amounts of weight gives players the opportunity to dial in their preferred launch and spin conditions, while wider speed channels in the sole allow clubhead speed to remain maximized through the turf.
