Hideki Matsuyama's Winning Bag | 2024 FedEx St. Jude's Championship
Hideki Matsuyama looked like he was going to cruise to victory at the FedEx St. Jude’s Championship, holding a 5-stroke lead on the back nine on Sunday. That’s when things nearly took a turn for the worse when Matsuyama had a 4-over stretch and was suddenly trailing Viktor Hovland. But a birdie on 17 got him back in the lead, and then he put a stamp on his victory with a birdie on 18 to secure the two-stroke win.
Matsuyama is a Srixon staffer, but plays a nice variety of clubs throughout his bag with 5 different brands within his winning bag.

Driver: Srixon ZX5 LS Mk II
Shaft: Graphite Design Tour AD DI 8 TX
Matsuyama keeps his bag identical to his win at the Genesis Invitational this year and starts his bag off with the Srixon ZX5 LS Mk II driver with a Graphite Design Tour AD DI 8 TX shaft in it. This club performed quite well for Hideki. He finished tied for 21st in driving distance, averaging 315.5 yards off the tee. He was decently accurate off the tee too, finding 32 of 56 fairways, which was tied for 25th best in the field. That combination of distance and accuracy helped Matsuyama to a 15th place finish in Strokes Gained Off the Tee, where he gained 2.13 strokes on the field.
Fairway Woods: TaylorMade Qi10 (3-Wood), COBRA RadSpeed Tour (5-Wood)
Shafts: Graphite Design Tour AD DI 9 TX (3-Wood), Graphite Design Tour AD DI 10 TX (5-Wood)
For his fairway woods, Matsuyama plays two different brands, TaylorMade and Cobra. He goes with a current generation TaylorMade Qi10 for his 3-Wood while he goes back to 2021 for his 5-wood, playing a Cobra RadSpeed Tour. He goes with the core model for his 3-wood, which still has high MOI, but not to the degree of the Qi10 Max, but then for his 5-wood, goes with a lower-spinning model that gives him some more shot flexibility. Both clubs can serve as options to hit into par 5’s when needed, or off the tee when he needs to shape a certain shot, or hit a specific distance.
Irons: Srixon Z-Forged II (4-9)
Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400
Moving to his irons, where Matsuyama games the Srixon Z-Forged II irons. He goes with a true players muscle back for his entire set and these irons were dialed in during his win. He hit 50 of 72 greens in regulation, which was tied for 4th best among all players. That accuracy into the green helped Matsuyama finish 3rd in Strokes Gained Approach To Green, where he gained 5.762 strokes on the field.
Wedges: Cleveland RTX 4 Forged Prototype (52, 56, 60 Degrees)
Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400
Matsuyama goes back a couple models for his wedges, playing the Cleveland RTX 4 Forged Prototypes for all three of his wedges. With his distance off the tee, these wedges played a major part in his approach to green performance. He missed just 22 greens in regulation, and his short game was pretty good on those greens he did miss. He converted 16 of his 22 scramble opportunities, which included going 1 of 2 in sand saves. His 72.73 percent up-and-down conversion rate was tied for 18th best in the field. Even with that performance, this is where Hideki actually cost himself strokes, losing 3.307 strokes to the field around the green.
Putter: Scotty Cameron Prototype
While Hideki may have lost strokes around the green, when he was on the putting surface he was dominant. Playing a Scotty Cameron Prototype, Matsuyama made 113 feet of putts, which led the tournament. He also averaged 1.56 putts per GIR, which was 2nd best, and when you factor in his high Greens in Regulation percentage, that putting performance led to 23 birdies, which led the field, and an eagle, which was tied for 4th best in the tournament. All of that combined helped Hideki gain 8,201 strokes on the field putting, which once again led the entire tournament.
