It was a weekend Jake Knapp will remember forever as the 29-year-old PGA Tour rookie earned his first career victory at the Mexico Open at Vidanta. Knapp caught fire in the middle 36 holes of the tournament with a 7-under 64 in the second round, and an 8-under 63 in the third round. He then held on in the final round, shooting an even-par 71, and a two-stroke victory.

Knapp is PXG staffer, and games PXG for most of his irons and a wedge, but mixes his bag up quite a bit with four other manufacturers in it.

Leading off the bag for Jake Knapp is a PING G425 LST driver at 9 degrees. Knapp has effortless power and it showed at the Mexico Open. He finished 2nd in the field in driving distance, averaging more than 322 yards off the tee, and he tied for the longest drive of the tournament with a 374 yard bomb on the 6th hole in his 2nd round. His distance was phenomenal, but he still finished in the upper echelon of driving accuracy, finding 35 of 52 fairways, which was tied for 28th best. For the tournament, Knapp ranked 11th in Strokes Gained Off the Tee, which played a pivotal role in setting up scoring opportunities.

As we move down his bag, this is where Knapp’s bag gets really interesting. He didn’t have a fairway wood in his bag during his win, instead opting for the TaylorMade BRNR Mini Driver. Knapp gave himself another option off the tee. Boasting a 235cc head size, the BRNR Mini Driver combines the power of a driver with the precision of a fairway wood. Its Twist Face technology minimizes side spin for straighter shots, while the adjustable loft sleeve allows golfers to customize their launch conditions. With a smaller footprint and a larger sweet spot, the BRNR Mini Driver offers enhanced playability and versatility on the course.

Irons: Srizon ZU85 (2), PXG 0211 ST (4-PW)

Knapp keeps things interesting with a 2-iron in the bag as well, playing a Srixon ZU85. He doesn’t use a 3-iron, but rather goes 4-PW with PXG 0211 ST irons. While his driving was great all tournament long, his iron play was better. He led the field in Strokes Gained Approach to Green, while tying for 5th in Greens in Regulation hit, finding the putting surface in regulation 55 out of a possible 72 times.

For his wedges, Knapp uses a PXG 0311 Sugar Daddy II for his gap wedge, a Vokey SM9 for his sand wedge and a Vokey Wedgeworks for his lob wedge. All three wedges played their part in Knapp leading the field in Strokes Gained Approach to Green. While he tied for 27th in scrambling, getting up and down 11 out of a possible 17 times, he was able to go a perfect 3 for 3 with sand saves.

Knapp goes back to TaylorMade for his putter, using a Spider Tour Double Bend. Knapp was very good with the flatstick, tying for 10th in Putts per GIR, while finishing 17th in Strokes Gained Putting. While he didn’t score low in his final round, he did make the clutch putts when he needed to including a couple nice putts on 16 and 17 to maintain his two-stroke lead.
