J.T. Poston notched his 3rd career PGA Tour win with a one-stroke victory at the Shriners Children’s Open. Poston jumped to the 36-hole lead after rounds of 7-under on Thursday, and 6-under on Friday. He followed that up with a 5-under 66 on Saturday to separate himself from the pack. While others tried to chase him down on Sunday, a 4-under 67 was good enough to earn the victory.

Poston is a Titleist staffer and plays Titleist exclusively throughout his bag. While he made a switch to Titleist’s newest driver, he still games some older generation clubs in the long game section of his bag.

Driver: Titleist GT3 (9 degrees)

Shaft: Mitsubishi Diamana BF 60 TX

Poston starts off the bag with a Titleist GT3 driver with a Mitsubishi Diamana BF 60 TX shaft in it. The GT3 is the most versatile driver within the GT lineup with its adjustable weighting system, letting players really dial their clubhead for their swing. For Poston, he was middle of the pack in both accuracy and distance. He hit 34 of 56 fairways, which was tied for the 34th most accurate performance. Then he averaged 317.7 yards off the tee, which ranked 43rd overall. While he wasn’t stellar in either, he was good enough to be in the upper echelon in Strokes Gained, gaining 2.918 strokes off the tee, which was 15th best for the tournament.

3-Wood: Titleist TS2 (15 degrees)

Shaft: Graphite Design Tour AD IZ 7 X

Moving to the fairway wood section of Poston’s bag, and this is where we see him go back not one, not two, but three generations, playing the Titleist TS2. This club was released in 2018 and was the first model of the Titleist Speed Project. While he goes with a lower-spinning, more versatile option for his driver, Poston opts for the 2 model in his fairway wood, which has more forgiveness and launch, giving him a great option to attack greens from distance with. He showed off that ability in the third round, as he hit a 263 yard shot with his 3-wood to less than 4 feet, which led to 1 of his tournament leading 3 eagles.

Hybrid: Titleist TS2 (19 degrees, 0.75 degrees upright)

Shaft: Graphite Design Tour AD DI Hybrid 95 X

Poston stays with the TS2 line for his hybrid, playing a 19 degree hybrid ¾ of a degree upright with a Graphite Design Tour AD DI Hybrid 95 X Shaft in it. This club gives Poston some versatility in his bag, especially with him also playing a Utility Iron (mentioned below). He can pick and choose which club to use based on the shot he wants to hit. If he’s looking for a club with a little more launch and increased stopping power, the TS2 hybrid provides that, while if he needs to control the flight a little more, he can opt for that utility iron.

Irons: Titleist U500 (4), Titleist T100 (5-9)

Shafts: Project X 6.5

Not only does Poston game a hybrid, but also uses a Titleist U500 4 Utility Iron, and combos that with some Titleist T100’s for his iron set. Like his hybrid, Poston plays an older model for his utility iron, with the U500 being released in 2019. Like his performance off the tee, Poston was very good in his approach game. He hit 57 of 72 greens in regulation, which was tied for 16th best overall. That helped him gain 2.93 strokes on the field on approach, which was the 20th best performance of the week.

Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design SM10 (46-10F, 50-08F, 56-10S @55), WedgeWorks (60-04L)

Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400

For his wedges, Poston games 3 different SM10 wedges, and pairs that with a WedgeWorks 60-degree. His wedges were one of the, if not the best performing section of his bag. While they played their role in his approach game, they were even better around the green. Poston converted 12 of his 15 scramble opportunities which ranked as the 5th best scramble performance of the tournament. His ability to get up-and-down helped him gain 3.968 strokes on the field around the green, which was 6th best overall.

Putter: Scotty Cameron GoLo 5 Black Tour Prototype

Grip: Scotty Cameron Dancing Cameron

If Poston’s wedges were the catalyst in his victory, his Scotty Cameron GoLo 5 Black Tour Prototype putter was a close 2nd. Poston made 82 feet of putts, which was 12th best. He also averaged 1.68 putts per GIR, which was tied for 15th best. That performance on the putting surface helped him gain 5.472 strokes on the field, which ranked 8th overall.
