Since the biggest victory of his career at the 2023 Open Championship, Brian Harman has rarely found himself in contention. His 2024 season consisted of no wins with just 3 top-10 finishes, a disappointing year by his standards. The 2025 season has been more of the same for Harman, having played nine events thus far with zero top-10s.

This past week at the Valero Texas Open, Harman came out of the gates firing on all cylinders. He carded a pair of 66s to start the week and grabbed the 36-hole lead. TPC San Antonio was playing surprisingly tough this week, especially over the weekend. With the winds picking up and the course getting firm, Harman’s game fit perfectly.

The former Georgia Bulldog plays golf his own way. He knows he’s not the longest hitter on tour. Consistency, accuracy, and grit make up Harman’s winning formula. His opening rounds gave him a decent cushion, and after battling the conditions on Saturday and posting an even-par 72, Harman saw his lead grow to three heading into the final round.

Sunday was no easier for the players as the wind strengthened throughout the day. It was the toughest day of the week as four players shot in the 80s in the final round. Harman made two bogeys and a double on his opening nine to give those chasing some hope.

Unfortunately, it was so tough out there that nobody was able to sustain enough momentum to really threaten Harman down the stretch. An even-par 36 on the back nine was good enough for Harman to still win by three. The 38-year-old now has four PGA Tour victories in his career, with this one marking his first since the Open in July of 2023.

Winner's Bag - Brian Harman

Titleist staffer Brian Harman was able to withstand tough conditions in San Antonio to claim his 4th PGA Tour victory. Brian’s bag is one of the more unique ones on Tour in the sense that he opts to play older generations vs the newer, faster stuff- a testament to the trust he has in his style of play.

Driver: Titleist TSi2 (9 degrees)

Shaft: Graphite Design Tour AD IZ 5 S

Harman games a driver released nearly five years ago – the Titleist TSi2 (9 degrees) with a Graphite Design Tour AD IZ 5 S shaft. It’s the same driver he used to win The Open in 2023. Clearly, there’s a level of trust in this driver for Harman to keep it in the bag as long as he has.

Fairway Woods: Titleist TS2 (13.5 Degrees, 16.5 Degrees)

Shafts: Fujikura Speeder 661 Evolution II S (13.5 Degrees), Fujikura Speeder 775 Evolution II S (16.5 Degrees)

Harman sticks with an older model in his fairway woods as well, gaming a pair of Titleist TS2s at 13.5 and 16.5 degrees with Fujikura Speeder Evolution shafts. Of note, the TS2 series of metals from Titleist were released back in 2018 and continue to find themselves in winning bags on the PGA Tour.

Irons: Titleist U-500 (4, 5), Titleist T100 (6), Titleist 620 CB (7-PW)

Shafts: Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black 90 (4, 5), True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S300 (6-PW)

Harman’s iron set is also pretty unique – a combo set of three different Titleist iron models. Nonetheless, it’s a combination that works for Harman. He’s been one of the most consistent approach players on tour for years and it carried him to victory in Texas. He finished the week second in the field in strokes gained: approach.

Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design SM9 (50-08F, 54-10S), WedgeWorks (60-04L)

Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400

Around the greens, Harman carries a set of Titleist Vokey Design wedges that also contributed to his stellar approach play during the week. Harman’s scrambling was also key in the difficult conditions over the weekend, helping him maintain his lead.

Arguably the biggest equipment story from the week was Harman’s putter switch from his trusty Spider OS CB, that helped him win The Open in 2023, to an unreleased TaylorMade Spider Prototype putter, which appears to be a Zero-Torque model. The switch turned out to be huge, as Harman finished sixth in strokes gained: putting this week.
