Callaway Mavrik Max Driver
Who’s It For?
Callaway revolutionized driver construction by using Artificial Intelligence to create Flash Face technology in its Epic Flash drivers for 2019. In 2020, Callaway is taking its use of Artificial Intelligence to a new level with the Mavrik series. The supercomputers Callaway has invested it created thousands of prototypes before arriving at a completely new and non-intuitive face architecture specifically for each Mavrik metalwood. The Mavrik Max driver is the easiest of the Mavrik drivers to hit in terms of high launch and forgiveness, which will work best for high-handicap golfers and more moderate swing speeds. The standard Mavrik driver features a slightly more compact footprint and moderate draw bias. The Mavrik Sub Zero driver is a smaller shape with a more forward center of gravity for golfers trying to maintain low spin and workability.
The Tech Story
Callaway increased its investments in the use of Artificial Intelligence after the success the Epic Flash drivers enjoyed in 2019. The Mavrik drivers feature what Callaway calls a new Flash Face SS20 architecture with a thinner face and a more expansive sweet spot area. Instead of one generic face architecture for all models in the series, the Mavrik series features a specific Flash Face design for each driver and fairway wood model to make sure performance is optimized for the type of player that fits into each club. Additionally, the complexity of each Mavrik Flash Face SS20 design required a stronger material than used in previous models, and that new material is FS2S titanium. A remarkably strong and light material, FS2S titanium allows the club to maintain high ball speeds without sacrificing any integrity in the clubface. Artificial Intelligence was also used to optimize the internal structure of the clubhead to produce an improved sound and feel at impact. The Mavrik Max driver includes interchangeable weights of 14 grams and two grams that can be placed in the rear or the heel, depending on if the golfer prefers max forgiveness or max draw bias. Callaway also implemented a couple of technologies that have proven to be successful in several past models. Jailbreak Technology, which consists of two internal bars behind the clubface that connect the sole and the crown, is included in Mavrik products to stabilize the clubhead and increase ball speed. The T2C Triaxial Carbon Crown is also featured on the Mavrik drivers, which allows for additional saved weight that can be redistributed throughout the clubhead to improve performance.
