Callaway revolutionized driver construction by using Artificial Intelligence to create Flash Face technology in its Epic Flash drivers for 2019. In 2020, Callaway is taking its use of Artificial Intelligence to a new level with the Mavrik series. The supercomputers Callaway has invested it created thousands of prototypes before arriving at a completely new and non-intuitive face architecture specifically for each Mavrik metalwood. The standard Mavrik driver offers terrific ball speed and improved aerodynamics through a new shape that also promotes a moderate draw bias and high MOI. This design will work for the widest range of golfers. The Mavrik Sub Zero driver is designed for low spin and includes adjustable weights on the sole for golfers who generate a lot of spin or who prefer extra adjustability. The Mavrik Max driver is built with a large footprint and a draw bias for golfers seeking the highest launch, the most forgiveness, and an anti-slice trajectory.
The Tech Story
Callaway increased its investments in the use of Artificial Intelligence after the success the Epic Flash drivers enjoyed in 2019. The Mavrik drivers feature what Callaway calls a new Flash Face SS20 architecture with a thinner face and a more expansive sweet spot area. Instead of one generic face architecture for all models in the series, the Mavrik series features a specific Flash Face design for each driver and fairway wood model to make sure performance is optimized for the type of player that fits into each club. Additionally, the complexity of each Mavrik Flash Face SS20 design required a stronger material than used in previous models, and that new material is FS2S titanium. A remarkably strong and light material, FS2S titanium allows the club to maintain high ball speeds without sacrificing any integrity in the clubface. Artificial Intelligence was also used to optimize the internal structure of the clubhead to produce an improved sound and feel at impact. Callaway also implemented a couple of technologies that have proven to be successful in several past models. Jailbreak Technology, which consists of two internal bars behind the clubface that connect the sole and the crown, is included in Mavrik products to stabilize the clubhead and increase ball speed. The T2C Triaxial Carbon Crown is also featured on the Mavrik drivers, which allows for additional saved weight that can be redistributed throughout the clubhead to improve performance.
