Who’s It For?

Mizuno’s clout as a driver manufacturer should grow considerably with the release of the ST190 and ST190G drivers. These drivers are highlighted by an ultra-fast forged SP700 Ti face and an Amplified Wave Sole design, both of which add miles per hour to swing speed and ball speed immensely. The ST190G driver is engineered, at all neutral settings, to be a more workable and lower spinning option than the ST190. Golfers seeking maximum stability and forgiveness from the driver may prefer Mizuno’s ST190 driver.

The Tech Story

Both the ST190 and the ST190G drivers include some exceptional technologies that will optimize ball speeds to a level never reached before in a Mizuno driver. The forged SP700 Ti face is 10 percent stronger than 6-4 titanium, an alternative material commonly used for driver faces, and has a fine grain structure that allows a more complex geometry for improved face flexing. A lighter carbon composite crown (12 grams) allows for an additional seven grams to be redistributed for enhanced ball speed and lower spin rates. On the sole, the Amplified Wave plate is made up of a large slot, or “wave,” and several smaller slots behind it to create a wave appearance. This design increases both stability and sweet spot area at impact for greater distance on center and off-center strikes without added backspin. Also included in the ST190G is Harmonic Impact Technology, which acts as a set of internal ribs that produces a better sound and feel at impact. Present on the ST190G but not the ST190 is intuitive Fast Track adjustability, which consists of two external adjustable weights that bracket the Amplified Wave Soleplate. Installing both weights on the heel track promotes a draw trajectory, while placing both weights on the toe promotes a fade. The weights can be split, as well, and placed forward or backward on the tracks for the golfer’s desired trajectory. The farther forward the weights, the lower the trajectory.
