Who’s It For

Srixon’s Z 585 driver was designed to provide golfers with maximum forgiveness, significant distance, and a naturally high, straight ball flight. That is a recipe that should appeal to plenty of players and especially mid- and high-handicappers. For lower-handicappers who are looking for enhanced shot-shaping ability or for high-spin players who need to reduce their spin rates to maximize distance, the Z 785 would likely be a better fit thanks to its head design and customization options. But the Z 585 should prove to be a great option for a wide range of golfers.

The Tech Story

Headlining the innovations that have been incorporated into Srixon’s Z 585 driver is a new Ti51AF Cup Face. More specifically, the clubface has been stretched to expand over portions of the crown and sole to allow more of the face to flex at impact. The Ti51AF titanium is also lighter and eight percent stronger than 6-4 titanium. That enabled engineers to use the thinnest face ever in a Srixon driver, and the thinner face and added flex from more of the clubface combine to deliver ball speed and distance increases. Also playing a significant role in the performance of the Z 585 driver is a new five-layer carbon crown. The lightweight design of the crown allowed discretionary weight to be moved to the perimeter of the clubhead to create more stability at impact and better results in terms of distance and dispersion on misses from the heel and toe. Unlike the Z 785 driver, the Z 585 does not feature any customization options. It is a bonded hosel design and features a fixed weight low and deep in the clubhead to promote higher launch conditions and increase MOI. The Z 585 also comes standard with a Project X HZRDUS Red shaft to help promote the higher-launching, straight ball flight that this driver was designed to produce.
