The new Z 785 driver from Srixon was created based in large part on extensive feedback from the company’s stable of touring professionals around the world. The result is a driver that has been designed to offer ample forgiveness but also the penetrating ball flight and workability that many better players are looking for. The Z 785 is also a lower-spinning head than its stablemate, the Z 585, and its adjustable hosel allows players to dial in their preferred shot shape. For those who are looking for maximum forgiveness and the ability to launch the ball higher more easily, the Z 585 might prove to be a more attractive option.
The Tech Story
There’s a lot going on from a technology standpoint with Srixon’s new Z 785 driver. Headlining that list, however, is a new Ti51AF Cup Face, which has been expanded to stretch over portions of the crown and sole to allow a larger portion of clubface to flex at impact. Additionally, the Ti51AF titanium is lighter and also eight percent stronger than 6-4 titanium, which enabled engineers to use the thinnest face ever in a Srixon driver. The thinner face and added flex from more of the clubface combine to deliver significant ball speed and distance gains. Also playing a crucial role in the performance of the Z 785 driver is a new five-layer carbon crown. The lightweight design of the crown allowed discretionary weight to be moved to the perimeter of the clubhead to create higher MOI and better results on misses from the heel and toe, both in terms of distance and dispersion. The Z 785 driver also offers multiple customization options. An adjustable hosel allows players to adjust loft by +/- 1 degree, as well as create more upright lie angles to produce a draw bias. There’s also a removable weight plate positioned in the sole that players can use to influence launch, spin, and swing weight. The Z 785 comes standard with an eight-gram weight in the port, but weights of four, six, 10, and 12 grams can be purchased separately to influence playability as needed. And finally, the Z 785 comes standard with a premium Hand Crafted HZRDUS Black shaft to help promote the low-spin, penetrating ball flight that this driver was designed to produce.
