Who’s It For?
Titleist drivers have been the most played drivers on the PGA Tour for the last five years and counting, and their newest line, the GT series promises to keep that title going in 2024 and beyond as it represents the most advanced and best-performing driver to ever bear the Titleist script. The GT line’s breakthroughs in material, construction, shaping and design have all come together to create the highest-performing Titleist driver to date! The Titleist GT4 is one of three models within the GT line and is designed for players seeking exceptional low-spinning performance.
The Tech Story
The Titleist GT4 Driver is engineered for players aiming to reduce sub-optimal spin rates, typically over 3,000 RPMs, to achieve a more penetrating and efficient ball flight. It features dual-spin control settings, allowing golfers to choose between aggressive spin reduction or a balanced and stable setting with moderate spin reduction, accomplished by flipping an 11-gram and a 3-gram weight between two positions. With a smaller 430cc profile compared to the GT2 and GT3 models, the GT4 incorporates a Seamless Thermoform Crown and Split Mass Construction, which pushes internal mass distribution farther apart. This maintains back-weighted stability while driving the center of gravity forward for greater spin reduction.
The Titleist GT Drivers showcase cutting-edge technology with their Seamless Thermoform Crown, constructed from an innovative Proprietary Matrix Polymer. This ultra-lightweight material, never before used in golf clubhead design, enables unprecedented internal weight positioning, significantly enhancing driver performance. The crown seamlessly integrates with the sole through advanced thermoforming, presenting a clean, uninterrupted look. According to Chuck Golden, SVP of Titleist Club Research & Development, the transition to a multi-material construction was pivotal in surpassing the performance of previous models like TSR. The new crown is approximately three times lighter than all-titanium versions, optimizing mass distribution and improving center of gravity (CG) and inertia. Titleist’s R&D team also ensured the unique acoustic properties of the Polymer preserved the classic sound and feel of Titleist drivers. GT’s Split Mass Construction leverages the weight savings from the Thermoform Crown, allowing for precise repositioning of mass within the clubhead. This strategic placement enhances both speed and stability by balancing mass low and forward, and towards the rear, meeting diverse player needs across three distinct models. Enhanced aerodynamics, made possible by the new weight distribution and design, further boost clubhead speed by reducing drag. The GT drivers also feature an upgraded Speed Ring with Variable Face Thickness (VFT), which maximizes ball speed on-center while preserving performance on off-center strikes. Tour-inspired face graphics provide additional alignment confidence, resulting from extensive player feedback and prototyping. Together, these advancements create an exceptionally fast, stable, and consistent driver that delivers optimized spin and launch conditions across the face.
