Both of Titleist’s new drivers, the TS2 and TS3, were designed to give golfers faster ball speeds and more distance, but there are subtle yet important differences between the two as it relates to playability. For players looking for maximum forgiveness and a high-launching, low-spinning driver that will provide a naturally straight shot pattern in its standard setting, the TS2, which also has a slightly larger and more modern shape, will be the better choice. Golfers, however, who are looking for more options to optimize their launch and spin conditions, as well as additional shot-shaping ability, might prefer the more customizable, traditional shaped TS3.
The Tech Story
The brand new TS2 and TS3 drivers share new technology that has been developed by Titleist engineers, all of which has been implemented to make these drivers faster, both in terms of ball speed and clubhead speed. Most notable is the use of the thinnest, fastest clubface that Titleist has created for a driver, and each driver is inspected using a CT test to make sure that it offers the maximum allowable spring-like effect at impact. Additionally, a variable thickness face design helps create more ball speed on off-center strikes to improve forgiveness, while also saving weight that can be strategically used in the clubhead. TS drivers also feature the lightest titanium crown that Titleist has used in a driver, which allowed additional weight to be moved low and deep in the head to create enhanced MOI and a high-launch, low-spin profile. And finally, new aerodynamic shaping reduces drag by 20 percent during the swing to help players produce more clubhead speed. Specific to the TS2 is a slightly larger footprint and more modern shape that combine to provide incredible forgiveness on strikes from across the face. The TS2 also features fixed internal weighting low and deep in the head to provide improved stability at impact and naturally high launch conditions. Titleist fans will also still have use of Titleist’s popular SureFit Hosel, which gives players the ability to independently adjust loft and lie to create 16 unique settings to help ensure optimal flight preferences.
