Each of Titleist’s new drivers, the TS2 and TS3, were designed to give golfers faster ball speeds and more distance, but there are subtle yet important differences between the two models as it relates to their playability. For players who wish to use customization features to create their ideal launch conditions, spin rates, and trajectory, as well those who prefer a more traditional shape that promotes workability, the TS3 will be the perfect option. For those, however, who are seeking maximum forgiveness and a high-launch, low-spin profile, the TS2, which also features a slightly larger footprint, might prove to be the better choice.
The Tech Story
Titleist’s TS2 and TS3 drivers share significant new technology that has been developed by company R&D personnel, all of which has been implemented to make both drivers faster as it relates to ball speed and clubhead speed. Included in the list of innovations is the use of the thinnest, fastest clubface Titleist has created for a driver, and each driver undergoes a CT test to ensure that it offers the maximum allowable spring-like effect at impact. Additionally, variable face thickness helps create more ball speed on off-center strikes to improve forgiveness, while also saving weight that can be strategically used within the clubhead. TS drivers also feature the lightest titanium crown that Titleist has used in a driver, which allowed discretionary weight to be moved low and deep in the head to create enhanced MOI. And finally, new aerodynamic shaping reduces drag by 20 percent during the swing to help players produce more clubhead speed. Specific to the TS3 is a slightly more compact and traditional profile that will make it easier to work the golf ball. The TS3 also features the SureFit CG that Titleist introduced in its 917 drivers. More specifically, a weight cartridge can be utilized in the head to manipulate the center of gravity to make it easier for players to achieve their optimal launch and spin conditions, as well as preferred ball flight. And finally, Titleist fans will also still have use of the highly popular SureFit Hosel in the TS3, which gives players the ability to independently adjust loft and lie to create 16 unique settings to further promote optimal flight preferences.
