Cobra’s F9 Speedback woods were tremendously successful, and the company has optimized specific zones to produce the SpeedZone fairway woods and hybrids. Cobra’s goal with the SpeedZone fairway woods was to deliver the best combination of power, speed, and distance. In 2020, Cobra has released three different SpeedZone fairway wood models: the standard SpeedZone, the SpeedZone Tour, and the SpeedZone Big Tour. The SpeedZone Tour Fairway Wood will work best for golfers seeking low spin and workability in a compact shape. Those looking for an emphasis on high launch will likely prefer the standard SpeedZone Fairway Wood or the high-launch, low-spin combination and large footprint of the SpeedZone Big Tour Fairway Wood.
The Tech Story
The SpeedZone fairway woods don’t generate explosive speed and distance by accident. Cobra engineers added some new innovations while simultaneously improving on technology that has worked in previous models. Leading the way is the CNC milled clubface, which works in a similar fashion in the drivers to allow more surface area to reach the legal COR limit. In other words, SpeedZone fairway woods are long regardless of where contact is made. Another marquee feature with the SpeedZone fairway woods is the Dual Baffler Rails on the sole running parallel to each other from front to back. These rails improve flexing at impact to increase the hot spot from heel to toe by 70 percent. Additionally, the rails provide excellent stability through the turf so that the club glides through any type of lie with ease to make solid contact. Lastly, Cobra optimized the carbon fiber crown to create more discretionary weight that has been placed lower and deeper in the head.
