Mizuno engineers produced the ST190 fairway woods with the same philosophy as the ST190 drivers. Whether it’s the high-energy HT1770 Maraging Steel face or the Amplified Wave Soleplate, the ST190 fairway wood has been developed to increase ball speed for golfers of all swing speeds and skill levels while maintaining low spin. Golfers searching for customization options in a fairway wood might prefer the ST190 Tour Spoon fairway wood, which features an adjustable hosel that can shift the loft.
The Tech Story
Many of the same features that make the ST190 drivers so fast and forgiving are also included in the ST190 fairway woods. The Amplified Wave Soleplate, which features a large slot near the front of the sole running parallel to the leading edge and several smaller slots behind it, has been tuned for maximum stability and an increase in sweet spot area for superb forgiveness on off-center strikes. The HT1770 Maraging steel face insert flexes more like a driver than previous fairway woods for optimized ball speed. An ultra-lightweight carbon composite crown makes room permits an added four grams of weight to be moved lower in the clubhead, producing a piercing, low-spin ball flight. Harmonic Impact technology, which act as a set of internal ribs in the ST190 driver, has been constructed similarly in the ST190 fairway woods to provide excellent sound and feel. Worth noting is that the ST190 includes a fixed hosel in both the 15-degree and 18-degree options, whereas the ST190 Tour Spoon fairway wood includes an adjustable hosel that can modify loft.
Quotable
“The ST190’s deeper face is not just useful from the tee -- it also gives the clubface a larger frame that functions more like a driver for higher ball speed. Normally that is comprised of a higher sweet spot and additional backspin, but by using our carbon composite crown and Wave Soleplate, we were able to combine high ball speeds with an efficient ball flight.” -- Kei Tsjui, Mizuno Lead Golf Designer
