Tour Edge has long been an industry leader in the fairway wood category and probably best known for the distance that it delivers in its fairway models. That should again be the case with the new Exotics EXS fairway woods, which are offering players an impressive combination of fast ball speeds and low spin rates to maximize total distance. That said, these fairways were also designed to provide ample forgiveness on mis-hits and to be playable from the turf, which will make them a good fit for a wide array of players.
The Tech Story
There’s plenty of talk about when it comes to the technology that has been incorporated into the Exotics EXS fairway wood design, but the list should start with the clubface, which features a high-density Carpenter steel that.undergoes a specialized heat treatment that strengthens the material and enables a thinner face. Combine that with Cup Face technology and a variable face thickness pattern and you have a clubface that will deliver impressive ball speeds on center strikes and mis-hits. Further enabling distance gains is a center of gravity that has been moved closer to the clubface to reduce spin, while the use of carbon fiber along the toe allowed weight to be repositioned to create higher MOI and better results on off-center strikes. Also of note, interchangeable weights of 11 and three grams can be positioned in weight ports in the sole to fine tune launch and spin conditions, while wider speed channels in the sole allow clubhead speed to remain maximized through the turf.
