With the Apex 19 hybrid, Callaway was able to develop a club that delivers the best benefits of a long iron, such as an iron-like blade length and neutral CG bias, and the best benefits of a shorter fairway wood, including Jailbreak technology, into one club. The result is an exceptional utility club that performs well from a variety of lies and surfaces, but also provides the workability desired by skilled players and Tour pros. This is a great option for low-handicap golfers who are searching for a better club for that pesky long-iron distance. Mid- to high-handicap players may find that Callaway’s 2019 Big Bertha hybrid, which has a greater emphasis on forgiveness and easy launch, is a better fit.
The Tech Story
Callaway has always engineered the Apex hybrid with the goal of providing the best features of a long iron and the best features of a fairway wood together in one product. That has been achieved once again with the Apex 19 hybrid, and then some. Many of the successful features from the previous Apex hybrid model are present in the Apex 19 hybrid, including the Precision Shaping with a longer, more iron-like blade length and a neutral CG bias for maximum control and workability. The Forged Face Cup is made from Carpenter 455 steel and designed for increased ball speed all across the impact zone. New in the Apex 19 hybrid, though, is Callaway’s trademark Jailbreak technology found in various models of Callaway drivers and fairway woods. This includes two vertical bars that connect the sole and the crown to stabilize the entire clubface to increase ball speed and, therefore, distance. The result is a club that possesses the ball speed and high launch found in the deepest hybrids and also boasts the control and workability found in long irons.
