Who’s It For?

Callaway’s Steelhead XR hybrids were created as a complement to the Steelhead XR irons and would best be described as game-improvement clubs that will be more than capable of filling the needs of a wide range of players. The Steelhead XR hybrids will also offer performance attributes similar to their iron counterparts, including high launch, impressive distance, and ample forgiveness. Additionally, they have a slightly larger profile than some of Callaway’s other hybrid offerings, which will help inspire confidence from higher-handicap players. For those who like the look of a more compact hybrid, however, the Callaway’s Epic or Apex hybrids would be excellent alternatives.

The Tech Story

As is the case with many of Callaway’s offerings, including the new Steelhead XR hybrids, a Hyper Speed Face Cup is the driving force behind what usually equates to industry-leading distance. The Face Cup helps create more ball speed from the Steelhead XR hybrids, which also feature a larger profile in terms of length and depth. Additionally, an expanded clubface helps improve performance on off-center strikes both in terms of ball speed retention and distance consistency. Also contributing to enhanced forgiveness is a low, deep CG placement that promotes impact stability while also producing naturally high launch. Additionally, aerodynamics were taken into account in the design, as a Speed Step, which Callaway has utilized in many of its most recent driver releases, has been positioned on the crown to reduce drag on the downswing.
