Who’s It For?

Titleist’s TS2 hybrid is a terrific option for golfers who tend to sweep the ball off the turf instead of hitting down on the ball. Titleist has released a slew of excellent metalwoods in recent years, including the TS series, and has extended that series to include hybrids. The TS2, specifically, is both long and easy to launch into the air, making it a perfect replacement for difficult-to-hit long irons. Any golfer searching for a long, forgiving option to fill the gap between fairway woods and irons in the bag will be pleased with the TS2 hybrid. Its shape also optimizes performance for sweeping swingers. Golfers looking for exceptional distance but with more customization and lower launch, or golfers with a steeper attack angle, may prefer the more compact TS3 hybrid.

The Tech Story

In creating the new TS series of metalwoods (and now hybrids), Titleist’s top priority was to find ways to improve ball speed. To achieve this, Titleist has implemented the Titleist Speed Chassis, which consists of several technologies originally developed for the TS drivers and fairway woods that have been optimized for a smaller hybrid shape. In particular, the clubface on the TS2 is the thinnest of any Titleist hybrid ever created, and 16 percent thinner than the 818 series. This results in significant ball speeds gains and increased forgiveness. Additionally, The TS2 hybrid features a refined crown and face thickness to create a lower center of gravity that has increased launch and decreased spin. As a result of these innovations, MOI is up by 10 percent over the 818 series. Finally, the TS2 hybrid features a SureFit Flatweight, an innovation that lets golfers adjust the club’s swingweight at will. In terms of appearance, the TS2 has a slightly larger footprint than the TS3 to appeal to players who prefer the look of a fairway wood.

Quotable

“Pretty much every golfer we’ve had test a TS hybrid has had the same reaction -- these things just go. When it comes to the world of golf clubs, hybrids don’t always generate the type of excitement you see with other categories. But with TS hybrids, our R&D team has developed a hybrid that players will start thinking about as their go-to club. A club they just can’t wait to hit.” -- Josh Talge, Titleist Vice President of Golf Club Marketing

Titleist TS2 vs TS3 Hybrids Test & Comparison: Outdoor Testing

Brand new from Titleist this fall are TS2 and TS3 hybrids. Both models feature shared technologies to promote ball speed and customization, but there are notable shape differences between the two, as well as performance differences. 2nd Swing staff members Drew Mahowald and Thomas Campbell recently took TS2 and TS3 hybrids out to the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course to see how they performed, to identify the most notable differences, and to discuss who might be the perfect candidate for each.
