For decades, golfers have been gravitating away from playing longer irons, such as a 3-iron and 4-iron, because they are difficult to hit consistently. The most common alternative to long irons is hybrids, though many golfers still want to maintain an iron-like performance in that spot of the bag. The Titleist TS3 hybrid is a perfect fit for these golfers. With a compact, square-toe shape, the TS3 hybrid delivers an iron-like shape and performance in addition to the explosive ball speed characteristics from the Titleist Speed Chassis. Additionally, the TS3’s compact shape will help golfers with a steeper angle of attack. Those who would prefer a hybrid that performs more like a fairway wood, or those with a shallow angle of attack, will prefer the TS2 hybrid, which features all of the same Titleist Speed Chassis technologies in a slightly larger clubhead.
The Tech Story
For the TS3 hybrid, Titleist’s engineers implemented their new Titleist Speed Chassis, an innovation that consists of several distance-enhancing technologies that were originally designed for drivers and fairway woods now optimized for a smaller hybrid shape. In particular, the clubface on the TS3 is the thinnest of any Titleist hybrid ever created, and 16 percent thinner than the 818 series. This results in significant ball speeds gains and increased forgiveness. Additionally, The TS3 hybrid features a refined crown and face thickness to create a lower center of gravity that has increased launch and decreased spin. As a result of these innovations, MOI is up by 10 percent over the 818 series. The TS3 also features the Magnetic SureFit CG weight, which can be adjusted to tailor the ball flight to the golfer’s preferences. In terms of appearance, the TS3 is more compact than the TS2 with a square toe design to resemble an iron, promoting workability and appealing to golfers who prefer an iron-like feel out of a hybrid.
Quotable
“Titleist hybrids were already by far the industry leader for hybrid performance, speed, and distance -- and now we’ve taken that to another level with these TS models. By taking everything we learned in developing TS drivers and fairways and implementing those technologies into our hybrid platform, we’ve been able to improve our speed and distance performance while maintaining the incredible playability that makes these hybrids scoring clubs -- that easy, consistent distance that launches high and lands soft, closer to the hole.” -- Stephanie Luttrell, Titleist Director of Metalwoods Development
