Who’s It For

Cobra’s new KING F9 Speedback irons would certainly qualify as a game-improvement product and as such will offer golfers impressive forgiveness and distance, as well as naturally high launch conditions. That, of course, is the perfect recipe for what mid- and high-handicappers are looking for in an effort to improve their iron play, and the F9 irons will be a great option for players who fall into that demographic. That said, the F9 irons also offer a fairly traditional look in the playing position, including minimal offset when compared to other irons in their category, and they also provide a softer feel at impact than many of their competitors. That combination might entice some low-handicappers who value distance to take a look at the F9 irons as well.

The Tech Story

Driving the performance of the new F9 Speedback irons is what Cobra has done from a weighting standpoint. Most notably, a low, back weight that spans the back of the clubface combines with tungsten that has been positioned in the heel and toe to provide the optimal CG position to achieve fast ball speeds and high launch, as well as impressive MOI, the latter of which will of course help provide better results on shots struck from the heel or toe or low on the face. Cobra’s E9 Pwrshell clubface, meanwhile, is driving ball speed and thanks to its variable face thickness design helps protect ball speed on off-center strikes. The F9 irons also feature CNC milled faces and grooves to provide precision as it relates to spin and trajectory, and a multi-material medallion has been positioned in the cavity to dampen vibrations at impact to produce a more pleasing sound and feel. Also worth noting is the progressive hosel design that has been implemented into the F9 design, as hosels in the longer irons are shorter to create a lower CG position for higher launch, while the hosels in the shorter irons are longer to move the CG higher, with the result being that players can control their ball flight more easily with their scoring clubs. And finally, as is the case with the entire F9 line, F9 irons come standard with COBRA CONNECT technology, allowing players to pair their irons with their smartphone to track stats and identify shot tendencies.
