Cobra Golf has introduced the KING Tour irons, which are unique in many ways. The most notable unique trait of the KING Tour irons is the construction method. The irons were built using a Metal Injection Molding (MIM) process, so the irons are neither cast nor forged. With that said, these irons are best for consistent ball-strikers with its compact shape and shallow cavity construction.
The Tech Story
The new KING Tour irons from Cobra are highlighted by the Metal Injection Molding (MIM) construction process. The MIM process uses a series of machines and robots that allow intricate shapes to be built and repeated with incredible detail and precision. Overall, the MIM process produces 50 percent tighter shape and weight tolerances compared to cast golf clubs. Meanwhile, Cobra says the KING Tour irons, built through MIM from stainless steel, are actually softer than they would be if they were forged. The KING Tour irons offer every aesthetic that comes with players irons and a shallow cavity behind the clubface that provides just a bit more forgiveness than a traditional blade. Also improving forgiveness is tungsten weighting in the clubhead, particularly in the toe area, that centers the center of gravity behind the hitting zone so that the club is properly stabilized at impact. While the MIM construction already created an incredibly soft feel, Cobra wasn’t done. A thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) insert is positioned right behind the clubface and in the shallow cavity to dampen unwanted vibrations. The irons also come with Cobra Connect grips with Arccos technology that allow golfers to track in-depth statistics and swing information on the course.
