Mizuno’s prestigious reputation as a manufacturer of premium iron sets is based on its production of two iron series, MP and JPX. Generally, the JPX iron sets emphasize ball speed and distance while the MP sets offer workability in more compact head shapes. The JPX 919 Hot Metal Pro irons offer the extreme ball speeds also featured in the original JPX 919 Hot Metal irons with a smaller address profile that rivals many of Mizuno’s irons in the MP line. The JPX 919 Hot Metal Pro irons fall into the Players-Distance category, suggesting they are for low- to mid-handicap golfers searching for more distance from their irons.
The Tech Story
The JPX 919 family includes Tour, Forged, Hot Metal, and now Hot Metal Pro models. Each is based on distance gains with differing levels of workability preferences made to the head shape to provide more or less workability. Not surprising given the similarity in their titles, the JPX 919 Hot Metal Pro is constructed from the same materials and methods as the standard Hot Metal. Each iron is made from one piece of high-strength Chromoly 4140M with multi-thickness faces for an impressive combination of high speed and superb feel. Mizuno also re-engineered the internal sound ribs to transmit player-preferred vibrations at impact to further promote the feel desired by the best players in the world. Compared to the Hot Metal irons, the Hot Metal Pro set includes slimmer top lines and soles, reduced offset, and an adjusted center of gravity to provide extra workability that might suit better ball strikers who want the Hot Metal distance.
