Mizuno JPX 919 Tour Iron Set
Who’s It For
A true players iron, the JPX 900 Tour has had an impressive run of success for Mizuno, both with touring professionals and amateurs, including having been in the bag for Brooks Koepka’s victories at the 2018 U.S. Open and PGA Championship. And Mizuno expects to continue that success with the JPX 919 Tour, which should prove to be a great fit for lower-handicap players and some mid-handicappers thanks to the impressive feel, control, and workability it will provide. To be clear, the JPX 919 Tour irons were built to promote precision first and foremost, and those who are looking for more distance and/or forgiveness might be better served to explore the JPX 919 Forged or Hot Metal irons.
The Tech Story
The JPX 900 Tour irons had been the most compact JPX iron that Mizuno had ever made. But Mizuno is pushing the envelope once again with the JPX 919 Tour irons, which are even more compact than their predecessors, a shaping choice that was based on feedback from numerous Tour players. But while the 919 Tours would qualify as quite small, they also provide a surprising level of forgiveness and stability, which comes in part thanks to a new Stability Frame that has been implemented in the construction of the clubhead to provide optimal launch conditions with each iron in the set while also preventing twisting of the clubhead on off-center strikes to promote improved dispersion. What’s not surprising, however, is that the JPX 919 Tour irons will give players the incredible sound and feel that Mizuno is known for, which is a result of the Grain Flow forging process and the soft 1025E carbon steel from which these irons were constructed. And finally, the chrome plating of the 919 Tour irons features a new, more durable Pearl finish to deliver improved resistance to wear and an elegant look at address.

Quotable
"The 919 Tour’s compact profile doesn't tell the whole story – there’s a surprising level of stability and distance control built into this geometry. Its predecessor attracted a new wave of younger Tour players into Mizuno irons, making a big impact winning back to back U.S. Opens and recording a course record 61 at St Andrews.” -- Jeff Cook, Mizuno Golf PGA Tour Manager
