The Mizuno JPX iron families have brought a modern appearance to a brand that has been most famously successful in creating beautiful, traditionally-shaped irons. The JPX 921 family, new in 2020, builds off some of the construction techniques used in the JPX 919 family to bolster performance. Of the four models in the JPX 921 family, the JPX 921 Hot Metal features the largest profile and plays most like a game-improvement iron for those golfers that would like some extra forgiveness and distance.
The Tech Story
The JPX 921 Hot Metal irons are the fastest ever created by Mizuno. It’s the third generation of the JPX irons that utilizes the resilience of Chromoly, and the new and improved engineering behind the JPX 921 irons, in particular, created a more complex face geometry to provide added ball speed. Essentially, Chromoly is now being taken to the limit. The re-engineered CORTECH clubface is now 0.2mm thinner, improving the ball speed at impact. Meanwhile, a variable thickness sole design allows the leading edge to act as a hinge to improve face flexing for more distance. The Stability Frame consists of extreme perimeter weighting with added toe bias to add both performance and better feel on mis-hits.
