Ping i210 Iron Set
Who’s It For
For PING, i200 irons were a homerun. They were played on professional tours around the world by the likes of Tyrrell Hatton and Lee Westwood, among others, while also ranking as the No. 1 iron on the LPGA Tour. That said, they were also a favorite among recreational players with handicaps well into the mid-teens. Brand new from PING is the i210, which will be replacing the i200 in the company’s iron lineup. The changes that have been made to the new iteration, a list that includes a more streamlined shape and even softer feel, are far from monumental but will prove valuable. And was the case with the i200, the i210 should once again be among the most versatile irons in the game in terms of the sheer number of players that it will fit, and it’s an iron that players will love thanks to the feel it offers and the precision and performance it provides.
The Tech Story
Given how much success PING had with the i200 irons, it’s no surprise that massive changes were not part of the plan when it came to the i210. However, from a visual and feel standpoint, the new model will prove to be much different than its predecessor. The i200 was the softest feeling iron in the PING lineup, and the i210 will be even softer. In fact, it will be significantly softer, 50 percent to be exact, offering a feel that will rival what any forged iron offers. That’s been made possible by utilizing an elastomer insert that’s 30 percent larger and impacts 25 percent more of the clubface when compared to i200 to provide the soft, muted sound and feel that the best players in the world demand at impact. Additionally, the shape of the i210 has been streamlined when compared to the i200, most notably when it comes to a thinner sole design and refined leading edge. That combination will provide ideal turf interaction for an even broader range of golfer, as well as improved distance consistency and an enhanced ability to shape shots. The i210 irons also feature a progressive design in terms of construction and offset, with the result being long irons that promote distance and forgiveness and short irons that deliver control and precision. Also helping to provide consistency through the set are CNC milled clubfaces and grooves, and in the pitching wedge and U-wedge, grooves have been added and positioned more closely together to optimize spin. And finally, a new Hydropearl 2.0 chrome finish offers a more stylish look at address while also providing improved resistance to wear. Additionally, the new finish helps reduce fliers by producing more consistent spin numbers in any conditions or from any type of lie.
