Srixon Z785 Iron Set
Who’s It For
The new Z 785 irons from Srixon will fall in line nicely with what the company previously offered in its Z 745 and Z 765 irons. More specifically, these are forged, players irons that will provide golfers with exceptional feel, classic looks, precision distance, and the ability to control shot shape and trajectory. As a players cavity back design, the Z 785 irons will also offer more forgiveness than a true muscleback on off-center strikes, but for players who are looking for even more forgiveness, or those in need of more distance, the Z 585 irons will also warrant serious consideration.
The Tech Story
Srixon has had impressive success both on Tour and with recreational players with its last two 7-series iron releases, the Z 745 and Z 765. Given that success, it’s no surprise that company engineers have not tried to reinvent the wheel when it comes to the new Z 785. Rather, small tweaks have been made to improve feel, performance, and aesthetics. Most notable for this category of iron is that additional mass has been added to the cavity behind the impact zone to give players more versatility when it comes to working the ball. Also new with the Z 785 irons is a revamped sole design, which Srixon is calling the Tour V.T. Sole, and the new shape has been implemented to provide even better turf interaction from the fairway or rough. Deeper grooves and laser face milling have also been utilized in the design to provide more spin and improved spin consistency from any lie. The Z 785 irons have also been forged from a single piece of soft 1020 carbon steel to provide the powerful, muted sound and feel that better players are looking for, and they also have a slightly more compact shape than the Z 765 irons, which was inspired by Tour feedback. The stock shaft for the Z 785 irons is the highly popular Nippon Modus 120, but Srixon offers more than 25 additional premium shafts at no upcharge for players in need of a different shaft profile.
