Cleveland Frontline 4.0 Plumbers Neck Putter
Who’s It For?
Cleveland Golf is attempting to revolutionize putter construction with the release of its Frontline putter series. More specifically, Cleveland is introducing a new weighting method that places more weight forward and results in the combination of forgiveness on mis-hits and more consistent, straighter roll. The Frontline 4.0 model is the only blade of the series and features a plumber’s neck hosel with moderate toe hang, which is great for golfers with a slight arc in their putting strokes. Those who employ a straight-back, straight-through putting stroke will want to look at one of the three Frontline mallet designs that have a single bend hosel.
The Tech Story
The Frontline putters from Cleveland introduce a radical new weighting method that contradicts how forgiveness has been delivered in putters in recent years. While many manufacturers are adding more weight to the back of the putter to increase MOI, Cleveland’s research has shown that moving the center of gravity forward actually increases accuracy, particularly on mis-hits. So, Cleveland decided to implement Tungsten Forward Weighting in each Frontline putter. This consists of two Metal Injection Molded (MIM) tungsten weights in the face, on either side of the sweet spot. This idea results in more solid contact and straighter rolls on mis-hits. Also featured on each Frontline putter is Speed Optimized Face Technology (SOFT), which normalizes ball speed across the face for consistent distance performance on every putt. Every model in the Frontline series features an individualized SOFT pattern to help mitigate speed and distance loss, especially on off-center strikes. The Frontline 4.0 putter has a classic blade shape and a plumber’s neck hosel with moderate toe hang, perfect for golfers who employ a putting stroke with a moderate arc.
