Odyssey Stroke Lab Nine Putter
Who’s It For?
Odyssey challenged established putter construction norms with its release of the Stroke Lab putters. Specifically, Odyssey incorporated a completely new and unique weight distribution method to improve the dynamics of the stroke and help improve consistency. The
Stroke Lab Three has 62 degrees of toe hang, which is best for putting strokes that have some arc. Golfers who employ a straight back, straight through putting stroke will want to try one of the Stroke Lab mallet designs that does not have toe hang.
The Tech Story
Odyssey engineers realized that most putting technologies focus on the enhancement of alignment or roll, masking the root of the problem: the putting stroke. From beginner to PGA Tour professional and everywhere in between, putting strokes are inconsistent by nature. Odyssey’s new Stroke Lab putters, including the Stroke Lab Nine, help improve putting stroke consistency with an innovative new shaft that changes the weight distribution of the putter. The Stroke Lab shafts are 40 grams lighter than steel-shafted Odyssey putters thanks to a multi-material design that includes a graphite body and a steel tip, with most of the mass allocated to the steel tip. To redistribute the saved weight and effectively maintain the same overall weight of the putter, Odyssey added 10 grams of weight in the club head in the form of two sole weights and added 30 grams of weight to the grip end. This weight redistribution results in more consistent backswing time, face-angle at impact, ball speed, and ball direction compared to past Odyssey putters. The Odyssey Stroke Lab Nine putter also includes the White Hot Microhinge Face Insert, which consists of dozens of microhinges embedded across the club face that promote topspin for smooth roll.
