TaylorMade Spider X Hydro Blast Flow Neck Putter
Who’s It For?
TaylorMade’s Spider putters have been wildly successful since the first model was introduced in 2008, and the high-MOI mallet design has attracted Tour professionals and amateurs alike. The new 2019 Spider X putters offer the same MOI in a slightly more compact in a smaller clubhead that also features an innovative alignment design. The result is a putter head that appeals to a wider range of golfers, including those who have disliked past Spider designs. The Spider X Hydro Blast Flow Neck Putter sports 21 degrees of toe hang, so it is ideal for the golfer with a mild-to-moderate arc in his or her putting stroke.
The Tech Story
The Spider X putters mark the 10th generation of the popular Spider putter line that debuted in 2008. New in the Spider X putters for 2019 is the combination of a new dedicated weighting system, TaylorMade’s True Path alignment system, and adjustments to the clubhead for a more appealing look. The weighting in the Spider X putters is more streamlined than any Spider putters that came before it, and include a modern weight design that is made up of three new weights: aluminum (two grams), steel (six grams), and tungsten (12 grams), allowing the golfer to choose his or her weight preference. The putter’s new head design was created with a multi-material construction, delivering a five percent smaller clubhead while maintaining the same MOI as the Spider Tour. The new True Path alignment system is the result of research derived from more than 10,000 putts that suggested golfers strike the ball toward the toe of the putter 66 percent of the time due to a parallax effect. TaylorMade engineers constructed the True Path design for enhanced focus so that more putts are hit in the center of the face. The Pure Roll face inserts included in past Spider putters are also present in the Spider X putters, providing excellent sound, feel, and roll.
