TaylorMade Truss TB1 Putter
Who’s It For?
TaylorMade’s new Truss putters look like something that has almost never been seen before in the golf industry. A unique Truss hosel design provides more stability for the entire clubhead and allows golfers to use traditional blade and mallet clubhead shapes while also putting with the stability of a modern mallet. The Truss TB1 model includes slight toe hang for golfers with a slight arc in their putting strokes.
The Tech Story
The Truss design is all about adding more stability to the putter to provide more performance on the greens for golfers. The key is the unique hosel design that creates multiple contact points between the neck and the topline that reduces the amount of unsupported mass, ultimately improving the stability. Traditional clubheads feature one contact from the neck to the clubhead and are more susceptible to twisting, especially on off-center hits. To create the design, TaylorMade collected data on 40,000 puts hit by golfers of various skill levels and found that more than half of all strikes were made towards the toe side of the face. Then, TaylorMade looked to geometric shaping that’s widely used in different forms of architecture designed to stabilize buildings, homes, and bridges, and came up with the Truss design. Now, a blade such as the TB1, has the stability of a modern mallet but still the same traditional look of a blade at address, as the Truss design is mostly hidden at address. Each Truss putter also comes with TaylorMade’s Pure Roll Insert designed to produce a consistent roll with excellent sound and feel.
