The Big Bertha iron franchise has been incredibly successful through the years for Callaway by offering higher-handicap golfers irons that provide exceptional distance, forgiveness, and launch. And that will once again be the case in terms of performance and playability with the new 2019 Big Bertha irons, which should prove to be among the most popular super game-improvement irons on the market. That said, with a more streamlined look, sleek PVD finish, and improved sound and feel, the new Big Bertha irons might also entice some mid- and even lower-handicappers to take a closer look.
The Tech Story
Headlining the technology in the new 2019 Big Bertha irons is what Callaway is calling a Suspended Energy Core. More specifically, tungsten weight is injected and suspended within the clubhead while also being encompassed by soft urethane microspheres, with the result being a lower, deeper CG position that provides effortless launch conditions and enhanced stability at impact, as well as improved sound and feel when compared to other irons in the same category. Also of note, 360 Face Cup technology has been utilized in the design, which allows the clubface to flex more at impact to improve ball speed from strike locations across the face, which has been made even thinner than what was offered in previous generations. A Smoked PVD finish has also been chosen for the new Big Bertha irons to provide a more compact look at address, and stock shaft options are available in both steel and graphite to meet the needs of any golfer.
