Mizuno MP-20 HMB Single Iron
Who’s It For?
For as successful as Mizuno has been over the past few years producing forged players irons, they have been equally as good in the players-distance category. The new MP-20 HMB (Hot Metal Blade) irons prove it, featuring the combination of hybrid-iron performance in a sharp tour-preferred profile. The MP-20 HMB irons can be played by anyone from tour professional to middle-handicapper. The popular choice for the most elite ball-strikers has been to replace a long iron, such as a 3-iron or 4-iron, with the MP-20 HMB model. Low- to mid-handicap golfers looking for added distance, however, will find that the MP-20 HMB will suit them well in a full set.
The Tech Story
Mizuno engineers created the MP-20 HMB irons similar to the MP-20 MB, just in a larger shape. The MP-20 HMB irons are forged through Mizuno’s patented Grain Flow Forging process and topped with plated layers of soft copper and nickel chrome, delivering the same exceptional feel that tour professionals love from the MP-20 MB and MP-20 MMC irons. The clubhead shapes include similar proportions, topline, and offset transition of classic Mizuno players muscle-back irons, but with generous sole width hidden at address. This added mass in the sole is additional tungsten weighting that has been distributed to the heel and toe sides of the head, which results in a lower center of gravity, increased launch, and higher MOI on mis-hits. Additionally, the Forged Chromoly clubface is ultra-strong and thin, resulting in extremely hot ball speeds. The MP-20 HMB irons can be blended in with the MB and MMC models to create a combo set that delivers added distance and forgiveness in the longer irons and more control and precision in the shorter irons.
Quotable
“A few years back it was a surprise to see truly elite tour players with more than one long iron replacement. But now that we’ve found their acceptance point on offset, size, and proportions, there’s a new set who are open-minded to the 5-iron and beyond. We’re excited to see what happens when they experiment with the HMB.” -- Jeff Cook, Mizuno PGA Tour Manager
