With the popularity of PING’s previous model, the S56, the company was in no hurry to release another version until it could truly be said to increase performance in every facet, and they accomplished that with more workability and added forgiveness in a cavity-blade iron set for 10-and-under handicappers: the S55 irons. The S55 irons are one of the few iron sets that improves on the performance of its predecessor in both the forgiveness and control categories: the smaller clubhead is more workable but the precision weight placement makes them more forgiving at the same time. Consensus from Tour players like Hunter Mahan and Bubba Watson is that the S55 irons fly farther yet feel softer than the S56’s. You’ll get a higher launch angle from the longer irons for more consistent performance on slightly off-center strikes. The shorter irons have a launch profile designed for more penetration and workability.
