Titleist 718 AP2 Black Single Iron
Who’s It For?
Titleist launched its first series of AP1 and AP2 irons in 2010, and they have grown spectacularly since then. The 718 AP2 irons in particular deliver Tour performance in a compact shape without sacrificing forgiveness. New in 2019 is the high polish black finish for a unique, inspiring appearance to go with the excellent performance. The 718 AP2 black irons are fit for low-handicap players searching for the rare combination of workability and forgiveness. Players searching for more distance-oriented irons may want to check out the 718 AP3 irons, while golfers in search of more forgiveness might like the 718 AP1 irons.
The Tech Story
The AP2 irons have always provided a rare combination of forgiveness wrapped in a compact, players iron shape. To achieve this, Titleist added high-density tungsten weighting to the toe and the heel of the 718 AP2 irons. The perimeter weighting supplies forgiveness and stability that rivals game improvement irons. Titleist has even said that the 718 AP2 model is as forgiving as previous AP1 models, which is supposed to be the game improvement sibling of the AP2. Ball speed has also been enhanced thanks to the high strength steel face inserts that have been thinned by 0.3 millimeter. This set also features progressive center of gravity locations so that the longer irons are higher-launching while the shorter irons offer a more controlled flight. The incredible feel can be attributed to the forged 1025 carbon steel body and the pre-worn leading edge throughout the set, which helps the clubs cut through turf smoothly to create as much contact with the golf ball as possible. The new, high polish black finish to the 718 AP2s offers a sleek appearance that inspires speed at address.
