TaylorMade GAPR MID Utility Iron
Who’s It For
TaylorMade’s new GAPR line of golf clubs has been created to give players a better option for filling the gap in their bag between their longest iron and their most lofted fairway wood. Three unique models are available to choose from depending on a player’s needs, and each offers a different head shape and flight characteristics. More specifically, as its name would suggest, the GAPR MID is designed to provide a trajectory that TaylorMade would categorize as mid-to-high, but it also features a sole design that was created to offer forgiveness and versatility.
The Tech Story
Significant technology has been incorporated into the three new GAPR models that TaylorMade is offering. Most notable is the use of Speed Foam in the clubhead, which has proven to be wildly successful in TaylorMade’s P790 irons. The Speed Foam is injected into the clubhead as a liquid and then expands upon contact with the air to fill the cavity. It enables a thinner clubface for faster ball speeds while also promoting a pleasing sound and feel at impact. Also incorporated into the design of each GAPR model is a Speed Pocket along the sole near the clubface, which helps the face flex in a manner that promotes effortless launch while also protecting ball speed on off-center strikes, especially contact low on the face. TaylorMade is also utilizing a loft sleeve with each GAPR model to give players the ability to adjust loft by +/- 1.5 degrees and lie angle to dial in the exact yardage and ball flight that they’re looking for. As it relates specifically to the GAPR MID, it offers the profile of a traditional utility iron and its mid-to-wide sole provides optimal turf forgiveness but still enough versatility to allow players to shape shots. The GAPR MID also feature an extremely low CG placement to offer enhanced stability at impact and a mid-to-high ball flight.
