Who’s It For?

The Titleist U510 utility iron is the perfect club for the golfer who likes the look of long irons but appreciates the playability of hybrids. This utility iron sports a sturdy-looking iron shape but remains large enough to fit in all kinds of technology that makes the club easy to launch high and far. Similar to its counterpart, the Titleist U500 utility iron, the U510 is just as effective when used to split the fairway on a tight par-4 as it is when attempting to find the green in two on a par-5. This club is a powerful and stylish option for those who want more performance from those tricky long iron distances.

The Tech Story

Titleist’s U510 utility iron boasts a wide sole and a larger blade length and clubface area, which helps deliver the feel and performance of a long iron with the forgiveness and launch of a hybrid. This design also creates a confidence-inspiring profile for those who do not always catch their long irons flush. Titleist also implemented a high-density tungsten weighting system that keeps the club’s center of gravity low, increasing forgiveness and MOI on contact made all over the clubface. Because of this, the utility iron is both easier to launch and more forgiving than traditional long irons. For distance, Titleist engineers inserted a thin forged SUP-10 L-Face insert into the clubface to help generate incredible ball speed numbers. In comparison to the U500, the U510 offers a thicker shape and lower center of gravity to increase launch and forgiveness. Meanwhile, the U500 is designed to produce a lower, more workable trajectory.

Titleist U-Series Testing: U-500 vs. U-510

Brand new from Titleist are its U-Series utility irons, with two unique options available for players to choose from. Both models offer impressive ball speeds and ample forgiveness, the latter coming courtesy of more than 90 grams of tungsten that has been utilized in each design. The U-500 has the more traditional iron look of the two models and was designed for shot-making, while the U-510 features a larger profile and wider sole that was created to promote exceptional launch. To see how these two utility irons performed and how they differed in terms of look, sound, and feel, 2nd Swing master fitter Thomas Campbell and staff writer Drew Mahowald conducted Trackman testing with each. If you’re looking at adding one of these clubs to your bag, this video could provide some valuable insight to help you make the right choice.
