Used Ping Glide 3.0 Wedge
Who’s It For?
PING’s new Glide 3.0 wedges are perhaps the most versatile wedges PING has ever created, offering features that will appeal to golfers of all skill levels and swing types. In particular, PING updated the construction of the head, refined the grooves, and added a classic Eye 2 sole grind option to produce better performance on all shots. The most important factor in choosing your PING Glide 3.0 wedge is selecting the right sole grind. The SS grind is a mid-bounce grind designed with heel and trail-edge relief, engineered for versatility to work from a variety of lies, turf conditions, and angles of attack. The WS grind is a high-bounce option featuring a round and cambered sole for golfers with a steep angle of attack or golfers usually playing on soft turf. The TS grind presents a low-bounce option (three degrees) that is designed for performance from thin lies or a shallow angle of attack. Finally, the classic Eye 2 sole grind matches the classic high-toe shape of the Eye 2 irons for exceptional shot-making and bunker performance.
The Tech Story
The most noticeable innovation found in the construction of the PING Glide 3.0 wedges is the increased cavity size, producing higher MOI and adding forgiveness. This design is rather unique to the wedge market, as many popular manufacturers construct wedges without the cavity-back look. However, PING made sure to improve performance on mis-hits by adding the high-MOI design in the Glide 3.0 wedges. Additionally, PING added more offset, tapered the hosel, and rounded the head profile to produce a clean look at address. The wedges generate exceptional feel at impact thanks to its 431 stainless steel construction and the elastomer insert located inside the cavity that dampens unwanted vibrations. The grooves have been made with a sharper edge radius thanks to PING’s patented, wheel-cut groove engineering process. This increases interaction with the ball at impact and, therefore, more spin and trajectory control. The grooves in the lower-lofted options (46-52 degrees) are milled with a 20-degree sidewall and .005-inch edge radius for ideal full-shot performance. Meanwhile, the higher-lofted wedges (54-60 degrees) are milled to a .004-inch edge radius and 28-degree sidewall for more spin and control on shorter shots. New to the Glide 3.0 wedges is the Eye 2 sole grind option, which features the classic high-toe shape for increased ball-to-face interaction on open-faced shots. Additionally, the center of gravity is slightly raised in the Eye 2 shape, resulting in a lower launch on full swings compared to the other sole grinds.
