Ping Glide Forged Wedge
Who’s It For
PING’s new Glide Forged wedges were created for discerning golfers who place a premium on feel and precision when it comes to their short game and wedge play. Glide Forged wedges feature a sole grind that falls between the SS and TS sole designs that PING offers in the Glide 2.0 line. More specifically, a more rounded leading edge and increased heel-toe camber should appeal to better players and shotmakers who want the ability to open and close the face around the green depending on the shot they want to play. Additionally, a Gooseneck-Tapered hosel makes the Glide Forged wedges a great option from thick rough and greenside bunkers.
The Tech Story
PING’s addition of Glide Forged to its wedge lineup came about in large part thanks to Tour feedback, with former British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen leading the charge. In addition to being forged from 8620 carbon steel to provide incredibly soft feel and crisp impact acoustics, the Glide Forged wedges feature a footprint that is roughly 10 percent smaller than the Glide 2.0 and Glide 2.0 Stealth models. That said, tungsten weight has been positioned in the toe to make the Glide Forged wedges incredibly forgiving in spite of their compact size. Also of note, the clubfaces are fully CNC milled and feature wheel-cut grooves, with the result being lower launch but increased spin to give players the ability to better control their golf ball on full and short shots. As mentioned above, there is just one sole design for the Glide forged wedges, with its primary function being to maximize shot-making versatility. Gap and sand wedges (50-56 degrees) feature 10 degrees of bounce, while the lob wedges (58-60 degrees) feature eight degrees of bounce, and the more rounded leading edge and addition heel-toe camber will help promote better turf interaction. Glide Forged wedges also feature PING’s new Hydropeal 2.0 chrome finish, which offers more sheen but will still repel water at impact to provide consistent spin in all conditions and from any type of lie. And finally, players will also have tremendous custom options when it comes to the glide Forged wedges, including unique graphics and personalized stamping.
