TaylorMade P760 Wedge
Who’s It For
With its new P760 irons, TaylorMade has taken what it deems are the best attributes that the P-series had to offer and combined them into one set to meet the needs of better players. There is, however, enough forgiveness, distance, and launch built into the long irons that these won’t solely suit low-handicappers; they would also be a good fit for mid-handicap golfers who strike the ball solidly more often than not. For those who want even more in the way of distance and forgiveness through their iron set, the P790 would likely be a better choice, while players in search of the ultimate in feel, control, and workability will also want to consider the P730 muscleback irons.
The Tech Story
The technology that has been incorporated into TaylorMade’s new P760 irons is extensive, but what makes this iron special is the progressive shaping and construction approach that has been implemented to give players the performance they need with each club in the set. The blade size, offset, and loft of each iron has been chosen to optimize results, but that’s only the beginning when it comes to the progressive nature of the P760 irons. More specifically, the long and mid irons (3-7) are a hollow construction and have been filled with TaylorMade’s proprietary SpeedFoam, which has proven to be remarkably popular and successful in the P790 irons. SpeedFoam originates as a liquid that is injected through a screw into the hollow cavity and it becomes a solid material upon contact with the air. The SpeedFoam supports a thinner clubface that helps produce faster ball speeds from all strike locations and also provides enhanced sound and feel at impact. Also included in the design of the 3-iron through 7-iron is a new, lighter SUS630 clubface that features Inverted Cone Technology, which further promotes distance, forgiveness, and launch. As for the short irons, they have been forged from a single piece of premium 1025 carbon steel, with the result being increased control and workability, as well as exceptionally soft feel. And finally, a new sole geometry that utilizes a more chamfered leading edge is helping to provide improved turf interaction and a perfectly square look at address through the set.
