The Mizuno JPX iron families have brought a modern appearance to a brand that has been most famously successful in creating beautiful, traditionally-shaped irons. The JPX 921 family, new in 2020, builds off some of the construction techniques used in the JPX 919 family to bolster performance. Of the four models in the JPX 921 family, the JPX 921 Forged is the only one that falls into the players-distance iron category. It’s designed for golfers that want a little bit of workability and a forged feel without sacrificing high ball speeds.
The Tech Story
The JPX 921 Forged irons are the first ever to implement Chromoly into a fully-forged iron clubhead. Of course, Chromoly is the strong metal alloy used in the JPX 921 Hot Metal and JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro. In the JPX 921 Forged, the Chromoly has been forged through Mizuno’s Grain Flow Forging process to deliver the exceptional feel while also producing excellent distance. The clubface has been made 0.5mm thinner for Mizuno’s fastest peak and average ball speeds ever from a fully-forged iron. Compared to the JPX 919 model, the JPX 921 Forged irons are more compact with a shorter blade length for a sleeker look at address. The Stability Frame, while not as prominent as it is in the JPX 921 Hot Metal and Hot Metal Pro, still stabilizes the clubhead through perimeter weighting and toe bias. The back milled slot has also been made 6.4% wider to increase forgiveness on mis-hits.
