The new TaylorMade SIM UDI utility iron is designed to be an excellent transition club between the fairway woods and irons in the golf bags of highly skilled and fast-swinging players. Players searching for a driving iron or perhaps players that prefer the look of a utility iron instead of a traditional hybrid will gravitate towards the SIM UDI. Golfers looking for a more forgiving utility/driving iron option may lean toward the SIM DHY.
The Tech Story
The SIM UDI features a tour-validated shape that includes a thinner topline, a refined leading edge, minimal offset, and average sole width. This combination presents better players with the look of both workability and forgiveness at address. SpeedFoam Technology, which is implemented into the P770 and P790 irons, among other TaylorMade products, is also in the SIM UDI. It consists of an ultra-light urethane foam inside the clubhead that is designed to increase ball speeds while also improving feel. The hollow-body construction delivers a clean appearance and allows for a low and forward center of gravity position for a powerful and penetrating ball flight. The clubface is ultra-thin and forged from C300 steel, a strong material that delivers explosive distance. Meanwhile, Inverted Cone Technology increases the sweet spot area for better performance on center contact and when the center is missed.
